We stayed at the Grand Hotel for 4 nights while visiting Toronto on vacation. The appearance and cleanliness of the hotel were good, but there were several factors that would prevent us from staying there again. First, we learned from locals that the hotel's location was not in a favorable part of town. We walked about 6 blocks to Dundas Square through a questionable area and were advised by our friends not to wander around at night. Second, our room was not well-suited for a family stay. The bathroom's lighting was extremely poor, and there was no second vanity so that two people could get ready in the morning (or evening). Third, our experience with the cot we requested -- without any linens and completely unstable -- was very frustrating. In general, the staff seemed apathetic; a good example was the doorman more interested in his iPhone than helping us with our bags. In the positive side, the included breakfast buffet was excellent, with a nice variety of hot and cold menu items. The pool was beautiful, as was the view from the rooftop terrace. We also liked the hardwood/laminate floors in the room; while the sound echoed a bit in the room, we liked having a solid surface that felt clean and looked very "boutiquey."

Our room was MUCH smaller than the photos appear in the hotel's website. It was clean and very modern. The room was not cleaned on the 2nd day of our stay...only the bed was made. The refrigerator did not work and they never did fix it. We had to ask for ice every night to cool our drinks. The buffet breakfast was ok, but not great. Plenty of food, just rather bland tasting. The shuttle service to the convention center only takes you there...it does not bring you back. We used taxis and the fees were very reasonable. The hot tubs on the roof and the swimming pool were a nice treat at the end of a long day. The staff was friendly and helpful in answering our questions.

My experience was great. Best stay ever in Toronto! The staff was outstanding; Check-in pleasant! The free breakfast buffet was outstanding! Room was roomy, very clean, sink , fridge, and burner a great touch! Beds a bit low for my taste, but comfortable. Lovely view of the water. My sister loved the dark wood floors, an unexpected touch! Good temp control! Flat screen TV was nice touch but only HBO in-room movies, no pay-per-view. Dining was superb expereicne each time. Try the Creme Brule! 2 for lunch $50; 2 for diner, $80 including tips and taxes--but we are big eaters. Again, great staff! Pool changing rooms could use more amenities (bring shampoo). The roof top spa is an absolute must visit, soak and stare. The view from there at night is really beautiful. Extremely nice for the price and what you get. Eaton Center mall area, a small market, and subway within 7-minutes/ easy walk. Airport Express shuttle will drop you and pick you up all within a 5-minute walk! I can't wait to return.
